In Loving Memory of Rowena C. Marchand
She was a pillar of strength for her family in the Philippines. Rina worked tirelessly to support her loved ones and embraced all of my family and friends as her own. Her selflessness and love touched countless lives, and we are grateful for the time we had with her.
Amidst the challenges faced by young readers, a beacon of hope radiated from the heart of our community through the Kalinga Child Foundation. Despite encountering significant obstacles, this organization has profoundly impacted the lives of struggling sixth-grade readers at Central I Elementary School. Founder by the resilient spirit of Mrs. Rowena (Rina) C. Marchand, a native of Pangasinan Province and hailing from a family of educators in the Division of San Carlos City, the foundation not only nurture the minds of identified struggling readers but also ensured the physical well-being through a feeding program. However, as the foundation grappled with its founder’s battle against cancer, the community mourns the loss of visionary leader while celebrating her legacy.
Mrs. Marchand’s journey with the grade 6 identified struggling readers through the Project I CARE or (Improve Children’s Active Reading Engagement with Mrs. Margie C. Beltran, Master Teacher I of Central Elementary School as the proponent was one of the testaments unwavering dedication and boundless compassion among young children. Recognizing the intersectionality of education and nutrition, Rish as she is called by the members of the Foundation, spearheaded a program that provided meals to children in need, ensuring they have the substance necessary to thrive academically. For solace, support and tools to unlock their potential.
Despite her own health struggles, Mrs. Marchand remained steadfast in her commitment to the foundation’s mission. Her resilience is the face of adversity served as a guiding light inspiring volunteers and supporters alike to carry forth her vision. Through her leadership, the foundation became a symbol of hope, resilience and community solidarity, touching lives of families across the region.
The impact of Kalinga Child Foundation extended far beyond the confines of the classroom. By addressing the multifaceted needs of struggling readers, the foundation empowered children to envision a brighter future for themselves. Through literacy programs and nutritional support, students gained not only skills necessary for academic success but also the confidence to pursue their dreams.
As news of Mrs. Marchand’s passing reverberates through the community, there is an overwhelmed sense of loss tempered by an enduring sense of gratitude. Her legacy lives on in the smiles of children whose lives were touched by her kindness, in the laughter that filled the halls of the foundation and in the bonds forged between volunteers and families they served. Though she may no longer walk among us, Mrs. Marchand’s spirit remains eternally woven in the fabric of the foundation she built.
In the wake of Mrs. Marchand Passing, the Kalinga Child Foundation stands as a testament to the power of compassion, resilience, and community. As we mourn the loss of beloved benefactor, we also celebrate her enduring legacy – a legacy that continues to transform the lives of children and families, one story at a time.
